When Charles V was still a boy, the rich variety of musical life at his Aunt Margarete’s court had made a profound impression on him. From the time he inherited the Spanish crown at the age of seventeen he had two outstanding court ensembles at his disposal, and, as Emperor, fostered a truly princely musical culture, surrounded by the most famous musicians of his day….The ensemble Capella de la Torre together with the bass Matthias Gerchen have now brought out a CD with ceremonial wind- and vocal repertoire of this period – with their historical instruments they offer the listener a colourful and varied idea of the music that surrounded Charles V.  Fono Forum
