Berlin Early Music Youth Ensemble (JAM)
JAM was launched in 2024 as a collaboration between Capella de la Torre and the Landesmusikrat Berlin. Under the artistic direction of Katharina Bäuml and Hille Wippermann of Capella de la Torre, participants rehearse Renaissance and early Baroque pieces during two sessions each year.
Since 2025, the RIAS Chamber Choir Berlin has been an official partner of JAM and provides special support to the young singers within the ensemble. Musicians from Capella de la Torre, in their capacity as members of JAM’s partner ensemble, also lead rehearsals and provide coaching. JAM has repeatedly demonstrated its unmistakable joy of performance and excellence in many acclaimed concerts, which have also been enthusiastically reviewed in the press.
A new approach involves playing early music on modern instruments, thereby enabling participants to begin at a high level right from the start. The goal is to make music immediately using familiar technical skills and thus develop a love for ensemble playing from the very beginning. All instrument groups and vocalists are welcome: orchestral instruments as well as guitar, mandolin, saxophone, recorder, keyboard instruments, percussion, and others.

JAM is a unique pilot project by the Berlin State Music Council and the Capella de la Torre ensemble: under the guidance of professional coaches, young people explore Renaissance music.
Although it was only recently founded, JAM has already performed a remarkable number of times at special venues: the German Historical Museum, the Basilica of the Bode Museum, the Spandau Citadel, and the Berlin Konzerthaus.

FÜR INTERESSIERTE
JAM wird für talentierte Berliner Jugendliche im Alter von ca. 12 – 24 Jahren ausgeschrieben.
Jährlich finden zwei Probenphasen statt, in denen Musik der Renaissance und des Frühbarocks erarbeitet und in anschließenden Konzerten präsentiert wird. Das Coaching übernehmen Musiker:innen der Capella de la Torre, einem der weltweit führenden Ensembles für Musik der frühen Neuzeit.
Folgende Instrumente werden gesucht:
- ein modernes Holz- oder Blechblasinstrument (Flöte, Oboe, Klarinette, Fagott, Saxofon, Horn, Trompete, Posaune, Tuba)
- Percussion
- ein Zupfinstrument
- ein Streichinstrument
- ein historisches Instrument (Dulzian, Schalmei, Laute u.ä.)
Auch Sänger:innen sind eingeladen, sich zu bewerben.
Die Stücke des Programms werden nach dem Probespiel für die entsprechende Besetzung arrangiert.

Probespiel
Wenn Ihr Lust habt, Teil von JAM zu werden, freuen wir uns auf ein erstes Kennenlernen beim Probespiel oder per Handyvideo. Einen genauen Zeitplan und alle Infos zum Ort und Ablauf bekommt Ihr nach Eurer Anmedung beim Landesmusikrat Berlin.
Wir möchten beim Probespiel/ im Video sehr gerne folgendes von Euch hören:
- Ein Stück, dass Ihr ganz frei selbst wählen könnt (wenn ihr möchtet, eines der Auswahlstücke, die Ihr unten auf dieser Seite findet)
- Probespiel: Ein kurzes Vom-Blatt-Spiel eines Stückes, das wir Euch mitbringen
- Video: Bitte stellt euch kurz vor und spielt dann ca. 1-2 Minuten ein Stück eurer Wahl
